Just watched it… My thoughts *if anyone cares*
Gotta say visually it was definitely there. I think everyone and their dog has ranted and raved about the “let it go” scene, but holy crap… I think that’s gotta be one of the top 3 most gorgeous scenes in a disney film. The snow was amazingly animated as well.
Elsa was definitely my favourite character… Actually she was the only one that I liked at all. All in all I felt like the movie was a bit shallow. It REALLY seemed like it was either rushed, or they cut a lot of scenes out. I just had this sense that the movie was full of holes.
My #1 complaint is that YOU NEVER HAVE ANY IDEA WHERE ELSA’S POWERS COME FROM. She was just……born with them. I mean I’m only going by what I saw in the movie, so I have no idea if there’s information elsewhere, but does it matter? I feel like that should have been in the film.
I think also, that it would have been awesome to see a hint of Elsa longing to be free, before she has her “let it go” moment. All we see from her childhood onward is her being anxious. I know she was a fun-loving kid, but maybe a scene where she’s in her room all alone.. Anna knocks on the door, and instead of seeing Elsa just look miserable.. you see her REALLY REALLY tempted to give in, and just this desire to go play and be free again. I mean obviously that was in her all along, but I would have loved to see it.
I also have a head canon now in which Elsa displays MUCH darker tendencies than she did in the movie… Growing up with so much fear and confusion? We only ever saw her acting out of desperation, but I think maybe she may have had just a bit of bitterness stewing away inside. Perhaps a twisted desire to make others feel as afraid as she has? I think it would make for a much more interesting plot.
Anyways from a child’s point of view, the movie is really cute… the snowman is oddly not quite annoying (something about that innocent enthusiasm) I’m sure kids love the reindeer and the (scarce and mostly useless) trolls. (Another plot hole… what was the point of the trolls? Why did they exist when no other magical creature did?)
And while we’re on that topic… how come we never knew that Christoff was an orphan boy who was raised by trolls until like… halfway through the movie? What was the point of that plot device?
Also…why did Elsa and Anna sleep with their hair in braids and headbands when they were children?
