yes yes YES!!
I feel like not enough people are upset by this. Everyone is obsessed with the “Wicked” musical…but rarely do I hear a complaint about how they changed Fiyero from an exotic tribal prince with dark skin, to some caucasian frat boy. Does this not seem like an obvious discrimination that doesn’t even attempt to hide itself? If you ask me, the Wicked musical is a joke… I don’t even understand why people like it so much… the entire point of the original story is just dashed to pieces. (Thank god there was at least one set that had a black Fiyero)
I really get steamed when it comes to all the romance involved with the musical… Yes, I get it…people get excited over love triangles and crushes, but barf…In the book, the only romance you saw during their time at Shiz was Boq’s crush on Galinda. Where are all the philosophical discussions? The political activism? I dunno… Long story short, the musical is a joke, and the book is gold.
Enough rant…more onto my personal fandom…. I absolutely loved the sudden (and really unexpected) affair between Elphaba and Fiyero. He was such a minor character in the beginning..having him pop onto the scene as the main love interest made him suddenly so intriguing.
I think my little doodle there actually captured pretty well how I imagine him to look. (Though I got his tattoos wrong.. I drew them as triangles and then realized they’re supposed to be diamonds)
I think he’s way sexier as a dark, exotic prince of a far away tribe :>
I also wanted to throw in a doodle of Ephie too, to see if I could capture her look… Didn’t quite get it…but she is HARD to capture. Everyone keeps drawing her so pretty, but we gotta remember that she’s initially kinda hard to look at… Pointed “Vultures beak” of a nose, pointed chin, sharp and gaunt cheeks…yet still beautfiul in her own right. I think if I keep trying, eventually I’ll capture what’s in my head. I’m glad I got Fiyero though :D
